Community Events

We live in such a remarkable city and our team is pleased to be able to contribute to our community in various ways. As well as donating money directly, we offer both our time and resources to a variety of fabulous causes.

Our team not only conducts our own annual fund raising events, but we also partake in others, including the Ride to Conquer Cancer every summer.

2016 Pumpkin Patch -THANK YOU VANCOUVER FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

2016 Pumpkin Patch

THANK YOU VANCOUVER FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

This year’s Community Pumpkin Patch was a great success raising over $2500 for cancer research and treatment options and Trafalgar Elementary School.  4 large bins of pumpkins were completely sold out while smiles and excited children filled the forum!  Scary monsters,  the scary albino witch, fresh-made popcorn, chocolate milk, banana bread, and Halloween toys were popular distractions once that favourite pumpkin was chosen and bagged.

Check out our ‘Jupiter’ drone flight over the patch and photos of the event!

Mixed Green Salad Serves 8

with Pecans, Goat Cheese, and Honey Mustard Vinaigrette Recipe

If making in advance for a party, do not add the dressing until you are ready to serve. The recipe makes more salad dressing than is required for the salad.
Ingredients

*4 ounces whole pecans

*Tbsp butter, melted
* 1 Tbsp sugar
* 3/4 cup olive oil
* 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
* 2 Tbsp honey mustard
* 1 clove garlic, minced (about 1 teaspoon)
* 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
* Salt & pepper to taste
* 1 lb mixed salad greens, including fresh baby spinach
* 4 ounces goat cheese
* 1/4 cup sweetened dried cranberries
* 1 red bell pepper, cored, seeded, & cut into 1″-2″ thin slices

Method
1 Preheat oven to 300°F. Put the pecans in a bowl, sprinkle the melted butter over them, and toss until they are all well coated with butter. Then sprinkle the pecans with sugar and gently toss again until they are lightly coated. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the coated pecans out over it in a single layer. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and let sit until cool enough to touch.

2 Place the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, honey mustard, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes in a jar, cover and shake until the dressing is well mixed. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

3 Place the salad greens and spinach in a large bowl. Add the goat cheese, dried cranberries, red bell pepper, and pecans. Toss with 1/4 cup of the dressing. Serve immediately. Chill remaining dressing.

Keep your recipes coming: we’ll be sharing them here, on your Team Pospicshil  community page

“The Big Picture” – B.C. Business July 2015 Article on the Team!

The Big Picture

Popishcil Blog

Marty Pospischil’s success in real estate has allowed him and his team to continue their philanthropic efforts.

As seen in BCBusiness July 2015 issue

A realtor’s weekdays are filled with client meetings, negotiations, drafting contracts and late nights; and their weekends aren’t any easier with more meetings and countless open houses to attend. The truth is, realtors must be on their game seven days a week. But despite their busy schedules many of them still manage to find time to support worthy causes—some very close to their hearts. On top of the work of running a real estate office that sells 100 homes a year, Marty Pospischil—a real estate professional since 1993—also finds time to cycle 200 km a week. He needs to stay in shape for the annual Ride to Conquer Cancer, a 250-km ride from Vancouver to Seattle. Over the past five years, his office has contributed $300,000 to this fundraiser for the BC Cancer Agency, and this year, 12 people from his office have committed to the ride.

Pospischil, who was diagnosed and treated for cancer in 1990, says the event is an inspiring challenge. He and his team at Dexter Associates Realty fundraise all year, with wine-tasting seminars and other community and sporting events at which people can donate money. “It’s really amazing to experience the support we get from our clients because everybody’s been touched by cancer,” says Pospischil.

While his office supports a long list of organizations, there are three that stand out: the Ride to Conquer Cancer, the Pumpkin Patch at Trafalgar Elementary and the Viengping Orphanage in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The Pumpkin Patch is an annual Halloween fair, which raises between $1,500 and $2,000 for the school. As for Viengping Orphanage, Pospischil and his wife, Kunlaya, first visited the orphanage on a trip to her native country in 1994, and now they return every two years to make donations. These funds have been used for much-needed items such as water filtration systems, desks, beds and kitchen appliances.

Noting that his office is able to support these great causes because his team sells so many homes, Pospischil has worked tirelessly to ensure the sales keep coming. In fact, he used his engineering background to develop unique systematic approaches to marketing, which has proven to be effective.

Eighty per cent of his sales are repeat or referred clients—a direct result of the marketing plan. For every listing, from entry-level condos to $16-million homes, his team uses a 38-point marketing strategy, which includes flyers to every office in the market area, emails to 4,000 people in his database, marketing brochures and listings on about a dozen different websites. He also developed a system called Back Office, which tracks all information related to a property, including calls, feedback from viewings and contact information for interested parties. Clients can view all of this information online to see how the office is handling their listing.

“We can generate competition because we’ve got a database of people to call,” says Pospischil. “It’s actually enabled us to get above-market prices. In some cases we’ve had up to 20 offers on one property. It’s a big exciting part of our business and how we do so well for our clients.”

And when Pospischil’s clients reap the rewards of his hard work, so do the great causes he and his team supports.

Adam and Marty Ride Bicycle Challenge to raise money, and awareness for cancer research.

Both Adam and Marty are joining Rudy this November for the continuation of his Around the World ‘Thirty4Three’ Bicycle Challenge to raise money, and awareness for cancer research. Rudy is just over half way riding a total of 18,000KM around the world! Here is what Rudy has said about his ride: “My aim is to make a difference, to share my story, inspire the many and raise money for cancer research. This journey is not so much for fundraising as it is to draw people around the world together to finally end a disease that effects one in three of us. I hope to do this by inspiring others to do the similar events, promote awareness of these diseases and start ongoing events in places I visit. I am very happy to say that so far this has been successful.”

Clients can help support this cause in our annual fundraiser.

2013 Annual Pumpkin Patch – Trafalgar School Fundraiser a Great Success!

2013 Annual Pumpkin Patch – Trafalgar School Fundraiser a Great Success!Marty_fundraser-1

This year our team raised a record amount of $1678 for Trafalgar Elementary School in our annual Pumpkin Drive!  As per tradition, after the bins of pumpkins were unloaded from the truck, the excited students populated the patch during their lunch hour with over 350 pumpkins, a dozen bales of hay, cornhusks, and lots of fun Halloween decorations.

Several hundred parents, kids, and clients visited our drive this year to indulge and support. Children enjoyed picking out their favourite pumpkins to take home, enjoyed popcorn and chocolate milk, and played in the pumpkin patch with the Great Pumpkin and a new assortment scary patch monsters, and some kids even paused long enough for some face painting!

Thank you to all those who came out and supported this fun and successful event!!

Team Pospischil Tours the BC Cancer Agency – May 2013

How Fundraising Dollars are Changing Lives

When Doug Nelson, the President and CEO of the BC Cancer Foundation, gave our team a guided tour of the cancer research facilities, we were honoured to receive some first-hand knowledge regarding how the money we raise in the annual Ride to Conquer Cancer is put to use.

We met some of the world’s top researchers who not only provided in depth information about their current projects but they personally answered our many questions.

Agency scientists were working side-by-side with their clinical colleagues, an approach that has helped BC experience the lowest cancer incidence rates and mortality rates in Canada.

We learned that the research facility that we toured represents an amazing $3.5 billion in health care.  Specifically, a portion of the monies raised from last year’s Ride to Conquer Cancer facilitated the purchase of a state-of-the-art PET/CT scanner which allows clinicians to locate cancer cells anywhere in the body.  This purchase, along with an upgrade to their existing scanner, has resulted in reduced wait times and the number of patients able to receive these life-saving scans has more than doubled.

  • Since survival rates are increasing
  • Discoveries are being made every day
  • Many new programs are being introduced and funded to help support patients after their treatment!

Your donations are making a difference!!  Once again, our team is participating in the Ride to Conquer Cancer this June and we need your support.

No matter how small, we appreciate your donations.  Numbers add up if we all do even a little towards this great cause.  Please click on the link below to make a tax deductible donation towards a member of our team so we can reach our goal:

STaRS Fundraiser Event – April 2013

Last month, we were pleased to both sponsor and participate in a fundraiser for STaRS, the Southland’s Therapeutic Riding Society. The evening was full of enthusiasm and gaiety, with funds being raised to allow those in financial hardship to partake in these unique therapeutic services.

For someone with a disability, riding a horse is so much more than a fun hobby – it can be the road to recovery. With the use of specially trained horses, therapeutic riding provides physical, psychological and social stimulation to individuals with developmental conditions such as autism and cerebral palsy.

We are delighted to support non-profit organizations such as STaRS which allows those in need to receive the numerous benefits of four-legged therapy, including enjoying the bond created between horse and rider that fosters a lovely, healing trust.
